Heynen was employed by DVV on a three-year deal. He will succeed Felix Koslowski, who led the German ladies for the previous six seasons. From 2012 until 2016, Heynen was the head coach of the German men's national team, leading them to bronze at the 2014 World Championships and gold at the 2015 European Games.
